What is the measure of your faith?

Hello my lovelies and welcome to An Inquisitive Mind – Illumination through Christ. If you haven’t already I will encourage you to read the last post :

What do you stand for?

Now, let us explore today’s message.

Are you willing?

I will start off by asking, what does it mean to have faith?

In Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬, the King James Version notes that ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’.

Essentially, faith is having confidence and assurance in what is unseen.

Also, in Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭(Amplified) says‬‬ ‘But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him‘.

This highlights that it is impossible to walk with God without having faith.

We can be encouraged to put our trust and confidence in Him. For He is the Lord , and is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

In Matthew‬ ‭17‬:‭20‬ ‭(Amplified) it says that “…for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and [if it is God’s will] it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. [Mark 11:23; Luke 17:6; 1 John 5:14]”

We can see how faith, even as small as a mustard seed, can trigger changes in the atmosphere.

FAITH is an activator.

As we have trust and believe in Him – we can be rest assured that the Lord hears us and will answer us (1 John 5:14 and Micah 7:7)

Are you open?

Looking at Matthew 9:27-30, we can see as Jesus is performing miracles there are two men who had asked for mercy and healing.

Jesus asked them, ‘Do you believe?’ and there response was yes.

In verse 29 it says “Then Jesus put his hands over their eyes and said, “You will have what your faith expects!” We can see their healing was instantaneous as their eyes opened and they could now see (30).

Only God knows how long they were in that condition for, but the two men that were once blind were now healed.

I am of the view these men approached Jesus on the basis of the miracles they heard were being done rather than what they saw – which sparked their faith.

Look how they believed despite the unseen!

This made me further reflect that even though we may see physically – in the spirit it is possible for one to be blind. This should then lead us to think on our heart posture and ask ourselves: How do I see God? & Do I feel God can make a change to my circumstances?

Now, no matter how short or long our circumstances last it is guaranteed we will undergo testing. Although, it doesn’t mean God hates us but He is for sure pruning us which can be painful.

This is seen through James‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ ‭(Amplified)‬‬ where we are reminded to ‘Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]’.

You choose

Let us look at Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭38‬-‭42‬ , where we can see Martha and Mary meet Jesus.

‭‭We can see Martha welcomed Jesus into her home and was ‘busy’ and ‘distracted’ with all her tasks. Whereas, we can see that Mary ‘sat’ at the feet of the Lord and was continually listening to Jesus’ teaching.

Despite Martha having good intentions, she became upset as her focus was elsewhere. However, Mary was more intentional and undistracted as scripture noted she had ‘chosen the good part’.

What can we learn?

The Lord invites us in to sit at His feet and trust in Him – just like Mary who was undistracted and the two blind men who were unashamed.

Although, we must ask ourselves: Are we willing to sit before Him and receive ? Do we truly believe He can make a difference in our lives?

No matter how long our circumstances last or how things are looking like, we can be assured that God blesses those who trust and have faith in Him.

Prayer

I pray that we will choose to trust in God in every season, with increased faith and the assurance that He is forever with us.
