Hello my lovelies, and welcome back to An Inquisitive Mind – Illumination through Christ.

The anchor scripture for today’s word will be 1 Samuel 17:32-54, where I will be making reference to the story of David and Goliath.

For context, David was a shepherd boy and had put himself forward to fight Goliath who was a warrior giant. David was confident of his skills and abilities, and also in the fact that the Lord will continue to order his steps (1 Samuel 17: 32-37).

We shouldn’t try to be anything or anyone else.

We can see that Saul wanted to further support David prepare for battle through giving him his own military clothes and armour. Although, David was not used to wearing these things – ‘I’m just not used to it’ (1 Samuel 17: 38-40).

Can you imagine if David went into battle with Saul’s armour? The one he couldn’t move in? This could have been disastrous because what works for one person may not work for us and vice versa.

With that said, it is important to be real as in truly real with ourselves and recognise the beauty of our uniqueness, and our gifting.

Do not become something you are not.

See the beauty in your difference.

Despite knowing Goliath was more than triple his size in status, stature and resources I love how David didn’t see himself as small.

David was confident and did not doubt his gifting, make self- depreciating joke, question God’s backing or talk down on himself.

Instead we can see he saw himself how God saw him – worthy.

We must remember we are wonderfully and fearfully made despite what is in front of us and the temptation to compare.

Be Humble and remember that He is God.

Despite being a ‘giant’ Goliath had very ‘small’ thinking in terms of David’s abilities and the grace upon his life (1 Samuel 17:41-44).

We see just before ‘showdown’ Goliath is trash talking David but yet David appears unaffected and instead brandishes his weapon : ‘the Lord All-Powerful’ (45).

David continued to make boast of how the Lord would defeat Goliath for him (47) and when Goliath started moving towards David he ran toward him with no fear.

David defeated Goliath with his ‘mere’ tools and was victorious (48-51).

This story should remind us not to look down on ourselves and the gifts we have by comparing unto others.

We should instead be rest assured that we are not too small to be used for God’s business – there is value in our gifting we just need a shift in perspective.

Father Lord, I thank you for creating me as I am wonderfully and beautifully made in your likeness.

Please help me to celebrate my uniqueness and encourage others to do so too.

Please remove every self limiting belief that is holding me back from seeing myself in the way you see me.

Please have mercy for the times I have given up, compared or complained about my gifting. I pray that you will help me shift my perspective and bring you Glory.
